TEO 3.0 with student pricing!

Filed Under (Miscellany, Software, Technology) by Susy on 29-07-2006

Thanks to Tracy Hooten of The Student Tablet PC for posting this:  TEO 3.0 has been officially released with upcoming student pricing of $29.99 compared to $49.99 for the nonstudent version.  I paid for TEO 2.0 and have been enjoying the beta.  If you are a student and a tablet pc user, I really really really recommend that you get TEO.  If you are unfamiliar with Tablet Enhancements for Outlook, I hesitate to call it a plugin to add better pen functionality to Outlook when it is so much more- full ink tasks, contacts, notes! coordinated with tasks, as well as integrated audio recording.  The program is simply wonderful and if you have been hesitating due to the price, now is your chance!

We now resume normal broadcasting

Apologies for not posting for a month. My only excuse is that real life has become slightly crazier than usual. I am starting my fifth year of graduate school and it is now crunch time. However, I hope to resume posting again with my usual regularity.

After much agonizing, I am going to have to give up on my TC1000. The power issues I have been having have meant that I am not able to use my TC1000 in any mode other than as a stationary laptop which does limit its use. This does not mean that I am leaving the Tablet PC world. I love the versatility of the form factor too much to leave it behind.

I considered several options when looking for a replacement for my TC1000. I looked at the Fujitsu P1510d and the T4210. I also looked at the Lenovo and both the Motion and Electrovaya slates. Ultimately I decided to update to a TC1100. I think it is testament to how well designed the TC1X series is that I chose to go with the older tc1100 because I loved the form factor so much. I really can’t overemphasize how perfect the TC1X series is in fitting my lifestyle. The 10″ screen is small enough to be portable but large enough that I can use it as my primary work machine and for taking large amounts of notes. I also love that I can remove the keyboard anytime I like and have a slate at my disposal. The only machines that really come close are the Motion and Electrovaya slates. Why HP did you discontinue this machine?

I am currently waiting for my TC1100. It comes with 512 mb RAM which I am going to update to 1 g. I may also look at getting a bigger and faster hard drive eventually but I do have an external USB hard drive so the 40g hard drive that the machine comes with will do for now. I think the Centrino processor should work fine for my use. I imagine that I could get a basic install of Vista on there if I wanted to. I know that I won’t be able to have aero glass but since I am not really that excited about the shiny new interface it isn’t that big of a deal. The ultimate dealbreaker in deciding to get the TC1100 was usability.

Someday I may have to update to a more recent offering but until then I am going to keep my TC1X tablet as long as possible.
